A Consumer ’ s Guide to Cognition , Audition & Amplification

چکیده
A Consumer’s Guide to Cognition, Audition & Amplification will address how cognition (top-down processing) and audition (bottom-up sensory-based processing) each contribute to our overall ability to hear and listen. Indeed, when everything goes right, cognition and audition facilitate an accurate and meaningful acoustic representation of the world. However, sensory-based systems (i.e., audition) tend to lose sensitivity and accuracy over time. Likewise, cognitive systems tend to slow down with respect to processing speed and they may falter or fail due to a number of dementias (of which Alzheimer’s disease is the most significant) and other changes such as physical health and psychological changes that impact working memory and our ability to pay attention. However, modern technology in hearing aids is working to capture and deliver sounds which are more compatible with what our brains need. That is, advanced hearing aids go way beyond simply making sound louder – they make it easier to listen and to make sense of the auditory world in quiet, in noise and while listening to televisions, cell phones and more in seamless and efficient ways.

The Primordial Covenant (Alast) verse is one of the Quranic verses that have an extensive reflection in mowlānā’s poetry and semantically speaking has a structural relationship with issues that the creation, the remembrance and the spiritual audition are most important. The Mowlānā’s Shams lyrical poems are a locus of manifestation of the effects that the spiritual audition has exerted on him. ...

متن کاملSelective deficits in human audition: evidence from lesion studies
The human auditory cortex is the gateway to the most powerful and complex communication systems and yet relatively little is known about its functional organization as compared to the visual system. Several lines of evidence, predominantly from recent studies, indicate that sound recognition and sound localization are processed in two at least partially independent networks. Evidence from human...
متن کاملParallel processing in human audition and post-lesion plasticity
Recent activation and electrophysiological studies have demonstrated that sound recognition and localization are processed in two distinct cortical networks that are each present in both hemispheres. Sound recognition and/or localization may be, however, disrupted by purely unilateral damage, suggesting that processing within one hemisphere may not be sufficient or may be disturbed by the contr...
